Tips from a 7-Day Bike Ride and Camping Trip - What to Bring

I just finished a 7-day bike ride and while camping every night that lasted over 400 miles across the state of Iowa. Also known as RAGBRAI. RAGBRAI is the largest and longest running bike ride in the United States currently with over 10,000 riders.

I had a lot of time to think while biking for 6+ hours a day (yes, I'm a bit sore) and there were a few things I learned along the way that I'd like to share with you. 

1) Always have a battery pack with you.
Whether you are camping, hiking, or traveling cross-country a battery pack comes in handy when you need juice for your electronics. You can pick one up on Amazon for less than $20, bonus if it is solar powered.

2) Drink more water and snack when you find yourself cranky.
My biggest challenge on the bike ride was staying hydrated and fed. I noticed immediately when I'd start slipping into getting hangry. I'd start getting grumpy and notice fatigue slipping in. It was crazy how much chugging a bottle of water or eating one of these Cliff snacks helped.

3) Buy a Sportbrella.
Don't ask any questions if you spend time outside.
It rained and it was crazy hot for a few days. After biking all day, we needed a break from the sun and Drew Curtis came in the clutch with a sportbrella. It saved us from getting completely drenched during a couple random thunderstorms.

Overall, it was an amazing trip with some interesting folks from all over the US and I'd highly recommend that you give it a shot.
